Focus on Contact Lenses
Back Early Eye Exams What does 20/20 mean? the Eye Doctor's Secret Focus on Contact Lenses A Mother’s Perspective On Zoonosis

Contact lens technology has grown tremendously since I was first in lenses at age 13. I started with the hard contact lens which is still in use today, but have been largely replaced by the softer, more comfortable hydrogels. Today's options include daily disposable, weekly or other modalities which best suit the needs of the patient lifestyle and health performance needs.

Contacts are also used today as a bandage lens that can greatly reduce the discomfort and aid in the healing process of some eye injuries. And then there are the fun lenses used by performers and occasionally for special events like Halloween. These lenses require the same health concerns and care as any other lens.

I fit many children in contacts, some for cosmetic needs and others for very specific vision restoration purposes. My experience with children in contacts is surprising -- I often find the children more enthusiastic and adept than the adults! I also use contacts to very nicely model the anticipated results for LASIK or other procedures, so we can proceed with more confident expectations for the surgical procedures.

If you'd like more information about contact lenses, please feel free to ask. We have a wide variety of lenses to suit most needs, and we can help find the right ones for you.
